How each tool shows a result
Textumi places a needle on a gauge that runs from “Human” to “AI” and names the result with one of five labels, from “Human-written” to “AI-generated”. With an account you also see the passages that weighed most in the result. For a text under 50 words, it shows “Too little text to judge” instead of a label.
Originality.ai shows AI scores, which it describes as probabilities rather than proof, and highlights the sentences most likely written by AI. Its Deep Scan explains why a text is likely flagged, and you can download a PDF report or share a link to the result.
A label and a percentage are both a model's estimate from the wording. Neither proves who wrote a text, and a percentage is not a measured share of generated text.
Which languages each detector covers
Textumi detects AI writing in 20 text languages. The English and Ukrainian detectors have the longest record. The detectors for the other languages were built and tested on a narrower set of texts, and some of them miss many AI texts in other genres, so a longer passage gives a steadier result there.
Originality.ai's help centre lists English and 30 more languages for AI detection, among them German, French, Spanish, Polish and Ukrainian. Texts in languages other than English go through its multi-language model, which is usually selected automatically.
Rewriting a draft: two different approaches
Textumi's Humanizer works in the same account as the detector. It rewrites a draft so that it reads more naturally and then checks the new version against your original: facts, names, numbers, exact names such as quoted labels, and the logic of each sentence. A version that fails these checks is not shown, and your original stays beside the result.
The Humanizer takes 50 to 2,000 words in English and up to 1,000 words in the other languages. It does not promise a lower score in any detector.
Originality.ai is built around checking texts rather than rewriting them. Its help centre says it does not offer an AI humanizer, although its website also has a humanizer page, and its blog lists paraphrasing and rewriting tools.
Where you can use each tool
Textumi works in four places with one account. The web workspace takes pasted text, files and public web pages. Textumi for Chrome checks and rewrites text on any web page from a side panel. Textumi for macOS keeps the AI Detector and the Humanizer on a toolbar above your other apps and needs a Mac with Apple silicon. The MCP connector lets Claude, ChatGPT and other assistants check and rewrite a text with Textumi right in the conversation.
Originality.ai works on its website and in the tools you use: extensions for Chrome and Firefox, Google Docs, a Moodle plugin and Google Classroom, plus an API. Its Chrome extension also offers Writer Replay. Its MCP connector runs scans in ChatGPT and Claude on the Pro and Enterprise plans.
Both services connect to AI assistants through MCP. Textumi's connector also starts Humanizer rewrites of English texts, and it is part of the MCP, Individual and Professional plans.
Privacy and history
Textumi stores submitted texts and results encrypted, and detection runs on Textumi's own servers. For rewriting, the text also goes to the external AI model provider named in our privacy policy. On Individual and Professional, your private History keeps requests for 30 days, and you can delete them earlier. A check without an account keeps no text.
Originality.ai keeps a scan history in your account that you can delete in one click. Its privacy policy says users can opt out of having their texts used for training. For its full rules, read Originality.ai's privacy policy.
Who each tool suits
Originality.ai suits publishers, website owners, agencies and content teams that want AI detection together with plagiarism, fact and readability checks, inside Google Docs or Moodle, or across many documents at once with its bulk scan.
Textumi suits you if you want the detector and a Humanizer with fact checks in one account, a native app on your Mac, or checks and rewrites from inside your AI assistant. It also suits you if you want rewrites that are checked against your original, or if you prefer a plain label with the passages behind it.

Questions fréquentes
Is Textumi an alternative to Originality.ai?
It depends on what you need. Textumi is an alternative if you want a detector and a Humanizer with fact checks in one account, a macOS app or a connector for your AI assistant that also rewrites. If you want plagiarism, fact and readability checks, Google Docs or Moodle, Originality.ai offers those and Textumi does not.
Which detector is more accurate, Textumi or Originality.ai?
We do not make that claim. Each company tests on its own texts, and the results are not comparable. Any detector can flag human writing and miss AI writing, most often in short, edited or translated texts. The fairest test is your own: check a few texts whose origin you know with both tools and compare what each one shows.
Can I use either tool without an account?
Yes. Originality.ai allows three AI scans a day of up to 2,000 words each without an account, from 100 words per text. Textumi's AI Detector checks texts of 5 to 250 words without an account, up to three times a day, and the Humanizer needs an account.
Do both services connect to ChatGPT and Claude?
Yes, they both have an MCP connector. Originality.ai's provides AI scans in ChatGPT and Claude with its Pro and Enterprise plans. Textumi's is able to work with Claude, ChatGPT and other assistants that support MCP, can perform text checks and start Humanizer rewrites of English texts, and is available in the MCP, Individual and Professional plans.
Does Originality.ai check German texts?
Yes. German is on the list of languages in Originality.ai's help centre, and its website has a German version. Textumi's detector also covers German among its 20 languages; the English and Ukrainian detectors have the longest record, and for German a longer passage gives a steadier result.
Written by ChatGPT? Can either tool tell me?
Both read the wording of a text, not its history. Textumi's detector never names a model, and we have not tested it separately on ChatGPT, so it makes no claim about any one model. A label or a percentage is an estimate from style and is not proof of authorship, whichever tool shows it.
