How each tool shows a result
Textumi places a needle on a gauge that runs from “Human” to “AI” and names the result with one of five labels, from “Human-written” to “AI-generated”. With an account you also see the passages that weighed most in the result. For a text under 50 words, it shows “Too little text to judge” instead of a label.
Winston AI gives a score from 0 to 100 and a colour-coded prediction map that marks each sentence, with a report you can download. Its API documentation says texts under 600 characters may give unreliable results and that the minimum is 300 characters.
A label and a percentage are both a model's estimate from the wording. Neither proves who wrote a text, and a percentage is not a measured share of generated text.
Which languages each detector covers
Textumi detects AI writing in 20 text languages. The English and Ukrainian detectors have the longest record. The detectors for the other languages were built and tested on a narrower set of texts, and some of them miss many AI texts in other genres, so a longer passage gives a steadier result there.
Winston AI's pages give different language lists. Its help centre names 16 languages, among them German, French, Spanish, Polish and Ukrainian, and says results in languages outside its list should not be treated as validated. Its API documentation names 14 languages and does not include Ukrainian.
Rewriting a draft: two different approaches
Textumi's Humanizer works in the same account as the detector. It rewrites a draft so that it reads more naturally and then checks the new version against your original: facts, names, numbers, exact names such as quoted labels, and the logic of each sentence. A version that fails these checks is not shown, and your original stays beside the result.
The Humanizer takes 50 to 2,000 words in English and up to 1,000 words in the other languages. It does not promise a lower score in any detector.
Winston AI does not offer a humanizer or a rewriting tool. Its tools are about checking: AI and plagiarism detection, a fact checker, a readability score, AI image detection, an essay grader and a grammar checker.
Where you can use each tool
Textumi works in four places with one account. The web workspace takes pasted text, files and public web pages. Textumi for Chrome checks and rewrites text on any web page from a side panel. Textumi for macOS keeps the AI Detector and the Humanizer on a toolbar above your other apps and needs a Mac with Apple silicon. The MCP connector lets Claude, ChatGPT and other assistants check and rewrite a text with Textumi right in the conversation.
Winston AI works on its website, in a Chrome extension that checks text and images, and through an API. Its MCP server connects Claude, ChatGPT, Claude Code, Cursor and VS Code and bills scans in Winston AI credits. Its pages list no desktop app.
Both services connect to AI assistants through MCP. Textumi's connector also starts Humanizer rewrites of English texts, and it is part of the MCP, Individual and Professional plans.
Privacy and history
Textumi stores submitted texts and results encrypted, and detection runs on Textumi's own servers. For rewriting, the text also goes to the external AI model provider named in our privacy policy. On Individual and Professional, your private History keeps requests for 30 days, and you can delete them earlier. A check without an account keeps no text.
Winston AI's privacy policy mentions that it stores the text and images you submit, removes them from active storage within 30 days after you delete your report or your account, and keeps encrypted backups for up to 90 days. It also mentions that submitted content isn't used for training purposes without your consent.
Who each tool suits
Winston AI suits schools, publishers and SEO teams that want AI detection together with plagiarism and fact checks, detection of AI images, text recognition from photos and handwriting, or very long documents in one scan.
Textumi suits you if you want the detector and a Humanizer with fact checks in one account, a native app on your Mac, or checks and rewrites from inside your AI assistant. It also suits you if you want to try the detector before creating an account, if you often check Ukrainian texts, or if you want rewrites checked against your original.

Questions fréquentes
Is Textumi an alternative to Winston AI?
It depends on what you need. Textumi is an alternative if you want a detector and a Humanizer with fact checks in one account, a check without an account, or a macOS app. If you want plagiarism and fact checks, AI image detection or text recognition from handwriting, Winston AI offers those and Textumi does not.
Which detector is more accurate, Textumi or Winston AI?
We do not make that claim. Each company tests on its own texts, and the results are not comparable. Any detector can flag human writing and miss AI writing, most often in short, edited or translated texts. The fairest test is your own: check a few texts whose origin you know with both tools and compare what each one shows.
Can I use either tool without an account?
Textumi's AI Detector checks texts of 5 to 250 words without an account, up to three times a day; the Humanizer needs an account. Winston AI asks you to create an account first and starts with a 14-day trial.
Does Winston AI work in Polish and Ukrainian?
Polish is on every language list Winston AI publishes. Ukrainian appears in its help centre but not in its API documentation, so check how it handles your texts. Textumi's detector covers both languages; the Ukrainian detector, like the English one, has the longest record, and for Polish a longer passage gives a steadier result.
Do both services connect to AI assistants?
Yes. Winston AI's MCP server works with Claude, ChatGPT, Claude Code, Cursor and VS Code and bills scans in its credits. Textumi's connector works with Claude, ChatGPT and any other assistant that supports MCP, checks texts and starts Humanizer rewrites of English texts, and is part of the MCP, Individual and Professional plans.
Written by ChatGPT? Can either tool tell me?
Both read the text, not the history of a text. Textumi's detector never names a model and we haven't tested it against ChatGPT on its own, so it makes no claim about any model. A label, or a percentage, is just an estimate based on style; it's not proof of authorship, no matter which tool shows it.
